RP Relations with Cyprus

Diplomatic Relations

The Philippines and Cyprus established diplomatic relations on 06 March 1980.  Neither country has resident Embassies in the other, with the Philippine Embassy in Athens having jurisdiction over Cyprus, and the Cyprus   Embassy in Beijing having jurisdiction over the Philippines.

Trade Relations

Trade between the Philippines and Cyprus is minimal at U$988,016 for the period January-June 2006 in favor of the Philippines.

During this period, the Philippines exported U$728,554 worth of goods consisting of consumer manufactures (garments, housewares, holiday decorations, fashion accessories, furniture, wood products, giftware, others); food and food preparations (processed foods, marine products); resource-based products (forest products, tobacco, textile yarns, twine and cordages, others); industrial manufactures (electronics, machineries / transport equipment / apparatus and parts, metal manufactures, construction materials, chemicals, others); special transactions.

Cyprus, on the other hand, exported U$259,462 worth of goods consisting of consumer manufactures; food and food preparations (mainly processed food); resource-based products (mineral products, others); industrial manufactures (electronics, machineries / transport equipment / apparatus and parts), construction materials, chemicals; special transactions.

Filipino Community in Cyprus

There are an estimated 10,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Cyprus.  As in Greece, a substantial number of OFWs are employed are seafarers employed aboard Cypriot-owned and registered vessels
